About Us

From a young age the Bisceglia sisters enjoyed experiencing music. Early influences ranged from bluegrass to classical to folk. Over the years they became interested in Celtic music and developed their own unique musical style. In 1995 the Bisceglia family began working with Terry Prohaska. Terry's musical expertise has been indispensable, and he continues to coach the girls today. Being homeschooled has allowed Whispering Roses to participate in many amazing musical opportunities. As sisters, their connection as musicians is natural!
Sarah
The eldest of the Bisceglia sisters, Sarah, began piano lessons at age four. A year later, she transferred to Harmony Road Music School, whose program focused on total musicianship and ensemble through group lessons. After finishing the basic program, Sarah studied at Harmony Road with Keiko Kobayashi for ten years. Throughout high school, Sarah participated in the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) Junior Piano Festival, earning ten consecutive superiors and four gold cups. After graduating, Sarah continued exploring classical piano with Irena Burkett, and improvisation with Dennis Plies, PhD. Sarah has completed the Harmony Road Music teacher certification and now enjoys teaching at Harmony Road. She has also enjoyed being the piano accompanist for group violin recitals. Besides music, Sarah loves reading, writing, scrap-booking, cooking, and Irish ceili dancing.
Janna
Following her sister's footsteps, Janna began lessons at Harmony Road at age three. Janna continued lessons with Keiko Kobayashi for fifteen years, graduating from Harmony Road at the age of eighteen. Wishing to learn a dis
tinctive instrument, Janna began studying the Celtic harp with Joyce Leonard when she was twelve. Janna developed a unique accompaniment style, which lends a quiet grace to the quartet. She also participated in the NFMC festival, earning ten consecutive superiors and four gold cups in solo piano, two superiors in the concerto event, three in solo harp, and two in composition. In 2009, Janna competed in the Highland Games in Washington and won the title of Northwest Scottish Harp Champion. Janna now enjoys sharing her harp expertise at her home teaching studio. Janna also delights in reading, baking (desserts especially!), sewing, and Irish ceili dancing.
Krista
Krista started at Harmony Road Music School when she was three, where she continues to study piano. Krista is at her element when playing recorder, which she learned from Terry Prohaska when she was eight. She now plays sopranino, soprano, alto and tenor recorders (also known as English Flutes) and the pennywhistle. She loves exploring unusual instruments, including the hurdy-gurdy, autoharp, and electronic bagpipes. Krista participates in the NFMC piano festival each year, and currently has three gold cups. In 2007 Krista wrote a ten-page Celtic style composition for piano, harp, recorder, and violin. Journey Through The Highlands won first place at the state and regional levels of the NFMC composition contest, and earned an incentive award at the national level. Journey Through the Highlands is the title piece of the Bisciglia family's debut CD. Krista spends her spare time journaling, Irish ceili dancing, drawing and rock painting.
Kathrina
The youngest member of Whispering Roses, Kathrina was surrounded by music from the moment she entered the family. She began lessons at Harmony Road at age three. Kathrina always wanted to learn fiddle, so at the age of nine she started studying Suzuki violin with Laurie Cassella. Kathrina has also attended classes and workshops on Irish fiddling, learning from some of the best Irish fiddlers in the Northwest. Kathrina's talent on the violin is shown in her ability to play lead, or create beautiful harmonies. Her violin is truly indispensable! Kathrina continues her piano studies and has earned six consecutive superiors and two gold cups from NFMC. Aside from music Kathrina enjoys handcrafting note cards, photography, computers, and Irish ceili dancing.
